Pretty Pictures

There are some pretty item pictures on Etsy. They’re so bright, crisp and clean. They make me aware of my lack in photography skills. I haven’t the first clue on good lighting, proper positioning, aperture, and all other photography terms. I’ve been trying to do my research, but my digital camera is quite old. My husband tells me that the camera on my phone is better than the digital one. So I’ve been using my phone but I still find the photos to be a little dark. Then I read of a light box. It seems simple enough, just a cardboard box some white paper and a few lights. So I gave it a try and so far I’m liking the results.

The box looks dark but when your taking photos of items in the box it is surprisingly bright. Here are a few examples.

Now I did have to make some adjustment in a photo editing software (like photoshop). But the changes I made were simples one, like upping the brightness and the contrast. I’m really loving how clean these pictures came out. And I will be spending most of the day tomorrow re-photographing my Etsy Listings.

What are your photography secrets and/or techniques for great pictures?
