Eeek Mold

Well I’m not sure if it’s mold, it’s more of a bad water stain(I just like being dramatic). On Thursday we found a nice size water stain underneath our night stand in our upstairs bedroom and a small stain on the ceiling. It looked horrifying and I refused to take pictures of it, so I have none to show you. We had someone come in and check out our attic and it turns out that one of our shingles had flown off. So when it rained it was slowly coming into the attic, soaking our fiber glass insulation, running down the inside of the wall and coming out the bottom of a plug in behind our nightstand. And we think this has been happening since we went to Niagara Falls and there was a small storm in Milton.

On Friday, the guy came back to replace the shingle (he didn’t have one on him on Thursday). It was a 10 minute job and it cost us a few hundred dollars. Now we were stuck trying to figure out how to clean our carpet. We spent most of Saturday trying to call someone to come and clean it. When we finally spoke to someone, they told us the area was too small and that he would have to charge us hundreds of dollars just to come and look at the carpet. So my husband and I went to the next best source, google.

We spent Sunday morning lifting the carpet and drying the wood and padding underneath. In the afternoon, we sprayed an anti-mold and mold remediation treatment on the entire area and dried it for the remainder of the day and night. Yesterday we spent the day cleaning the carpet with a rented steam cleaner (Rug Doctor). We cleaned it three times and we can still see some light stains. My father in law came by (he was camping all weekend or he would have been there to help) and he put are minds at ease. He told us we did good and that light stains are inevitable and all that’s left it to thoroughly dry the carpet. So that’s what we’ve been doing.

For the last 5 days we have been sleeping in the living room. Our guest room is an absolute disaster and we didn’t want our dog anywhere near the problem until we could fix it. So one of us gets the couch and the other gets a mattress from a roll away cot. We are so looking forward to tonight when we can finally sleep in our bed again!

Needless to say this weekend was not much of a relaxing long weekend. And on the knitting front, not much was done.

How did you enjoy your long weekend?
