Crochet Monsters

Lately I’ve been into making knitted animals but once I learnt to crochet I figured I can start crocheting them. And since I wanted to create my own designs I was leaning more towards crochet monsters and/or aliens that way I could try to make any weird ideas I came up with. This summer I took Stacey Trocks Amugurumi: Design your own Monster class on Craftsy. And it was awesome, she’s so detailed with all of her instructions and teaches you the basics of creating shapes and shaping the body. She basically sets you up to be able to create you own crochet monsters and the tools to create your ideas.

All I want to do now is crochet these cute little (well not so little) guys. I have plenty of ideas and drawings but picking one to create seems to be the hard part.  I’ve created these 3 crochet monsters over the past month. They’re all available in my shop.

A few days ago I started working on this guy in a bright teal colour. I’m excited about the fish-like fins I gave him as arms (is that strange? probable but oh well). Here are all of the pieces that I have to stuff and sew onto the body. I completely finished the body so I can better gauge the size of legs, fins, and eyes and to make sure that I would have enough yarn. I don’t usually do this, but that yarn was given to me by my aunt and most of it was already knit into small square with just a small amount left in the skein. So I frogged all of the knit squares except for 8 to do the body entirely and the last 8 squares I frogged one by one as I finished each limb. Again to make sure that I would have enough to finish.

And the completed crochet monster and all limbs sewn on (I’m still loving those fins!). This yet to be named crochet monster will be available in my shop later on today (I still have some measurements to take).
